Intro

Of course we relish rock music like every breathing soul, but when it is Indian we simply bask in the ambiance of its greatness and we do try to camouflage in the society , drink up, and do some other really cool stuff etc... but mostly we headbang and survive to write about it...

A Tribute to pink floyd, by para vaayu kyra theatre,Bangalore

Here is an trippy hate review by our Bangalore correspondent. The guy was so pissed off by the show that he decided to dump all the beer he had (in his tummy) and then decided to take out his frustration with a HIGH review.

WE ADVISE YOU TO STUFF UP AS MUCH AS YOU CAN BEFORE READING THIS REVIEW

Concert: - A Tribute to Pink Floyd,
Band: - Para Vaayu
Place: - Kyra Theater, Bangalore
Time: 8:00 PM

Pink Floyd, whenever I heard this name, I always was keen to smoke, found myself in a lost paradise, talking with some imaginary friends. Whenever David Gilmour pulled the string of his Gibson Les Pauls guitar, my soul came back to life.

Well it’s just my opinion :P …Don’t know about Non-Smokers.

Anyways to feel this kind of joy , I went for a concert called “A tribute to Pink Floyd” being held at kyra theater , Bangalore , It was wonderful evening in Bangalore , raining (Not Blood , it’s not slayer show ) nice melodic wind which making me “comfortably numb”.. Anyways I went in and then paid 300 “Money” for tribute show, which was quite high, but they were offering Drinks in this, so that was ok. Show was supposed to start at 8:00 pm, but due to tantrums of big bands, it started on 9:00 pm, 1 hour late!

But then some-thing happened between that 1 hr, a guy came at stage which seems like an 3rd grade anchor, and announced that he will give 50,000 Rupees to anyone whoever come at stage and have a little chit –chat with him. DUDE , That’s GAY and believe me or not 2 guys went on stage ,One of them half dead old man and another was full loaded orgasmic Boy. and that’s cheap. OK now that 3rd grade anchor asked a Q “Please tell your story of most memorable holiday “. Then it was turn of that full loading orgasmic Boy to ans. and he mumbled about his some shit holiday with friends and blam ..blam ..Beer,….blam….masti…blam..Blam..OVER!!! Then mic comes to Half dead old man , seems to be very energetic , and said something unique “ Ladies and Gentleman , I meeting my School’s friends after 35-40 years , and they all here for this concert” and you don’t fucking believe me that Half Dead Old man won 50,000  :O ( what he going to do now , planning for GOA trip on 2nd honeymoon  :P ) ...and his all Old dead men group shouted more then Gorillas. Anyways back to show.

And Finally band came on stage called Para Vaayu only 4 piece band (you kidding me), from there 1st look, I was impressed , except Vocalist (He was GAY , seriously who else still  wear tight black lather pant  with black coat )
As they started playing pink Floyd, man they were good ...But most important thing is there guitarist “RAVI IYER”. He was too good to play pink Floyd , His style of playing was good, Hats off ( I can understand guys,  who is playing from last 30 years in music , he deserve that.) But more imp actually bassist of PARA VAYU is theme of this band, without him it wasn’t possible to playing Pink Floyd and  not even easy if you don’t get not only good but best bassist of town. Anyways move to next, Drummer was too young to play pink Floyd (Pink Floyd is all about life story, if you don’t have story of life, you can’t play ) he was a technical guy( you can find them in some drum-room of high profile Music School).

As band started with melodic tunes of Pink Floyd , I started to enjoy it , it was so smooth , all guitar pinches slides, those bass notes , simple but powerful drum beat , that combination of Bass guitar and Bass drum hit. That sound of lead from guitar, It seems like listening on radio  but as the vocalist started singing there was defiantly clear that I’m not in Pink Floyd tribute. His voice was weird, don’t know why but it was. And from then I realize that it’s not worth listening to vocalist anymore, and concentrate of music only. But when I start listening to music only, I found that there is two sound of each instrument even vocal,   except drums and bass. There were two vocal, but only one person was on stage. Two guitar, but only one guitarist was there. Then I start searching for whole concept and realized that there drummer had MAC laptop with him and he is just playing song from there and that PARA VAYU just following the fills and beats. At that point, I made my mind to go home and not come back for there show. But as I paid 300 , so I had to drink also(Thought that maybe beer can make me forget that they are using console). So I ordered some and after few min again concentrating on that music. In between they played few song like "Don't Leave Me Now" and “Money”, “We Don’t need no Education” and few instrumental. But after so much effort I give up and move out   under “Dark side of MOON”.

Overall I figure out that It’s not music which make Pink Floyd our God , it’s the feeling which actually matters.

Scribe, Nigambodh, Rabbit is Rich, Arcane Deception - The Mezz - Pubrockfest

V Km (Scribe) : Hey drunk chicks *waves his mic*. You having a good tttiiiiiimmmmmeeee?
Drunk chicks : Yeaaa hhh *waves some ..*
VK : Your parents must be proud of youuuuuu ?! *ishmyle*
Drunk chicks : Yeaaa hhh *raises hands*
VK : Do you know what heavy metal iiiiisssss??
the crowd: woooooo, hey haha!!!
If the casting couch fame Gulshan Grover would have told me , "Main hun teja, mark idhar hai", I would have pointed him to the mark on every metalhead's map for the weekend , The Mezz, pubrockfest , for Bombay was knocking on us and we love pav bhaji.

The gig started dot at 8:30, something the rednecks didn't expect, while they were busy slowing things down (and literally) as a sweet smell of grass and rain engulfed me as I reach outside the pub. Then some burgers, greeting fellow pseudo intellectuals and a minus 150 bucks later we enter to find Arcane Deception playing their last song.  All I remember them saying was to visit their myspace page. (I certainly would recommend.)

Then entered some totally new, melodic, unexpected, band and Gavy(with his spartan hair on mic) started of with a real soft tone
" Hum hain Nigambodh , Hindi bhashiya band, rajdhani dilli se "
They started of with real groovy tunes and the bassy Tushar , was real पटाखेदार !!! Since these tunes were not one expected, some of 'em rather turned away. But suddenly then, they delivered the 'This Is Sparta' kick and the subtlety yet heaviness of their sound blew the corners away! Metalheads gathered in a jiffy and their song " भागो पागल आया !!!" was some shit. It totally rocked the house with everyone banging up to the brim. The double meaning of their lyrics is something to be noted. Manish growls like a bear and can hit those strings till u bleed, but I'd credit him most for the lyrics.
" बुद्धि ख़तम , असुर भसम , पंख लगा उड़ गए कदम ..."
Must I tell you that the band was playing 'Budhi Khatam' at IIT-g when fucking 'Eluveitie'! came out and clicked them!! Singing about Shiva (Stuti), Baiju (the peddler??) they are some trip you need to get on.

Manish - Nigambodh

Next up is 'Rabit is Rich'. Boy, they have been in the scene for some time now and have made a name and a die-hard following for themselves.
(after 6 some songs)
Sethi (R is R) : Guys, We ain't fucking play Lamb of God nomore.

Sethi has a clean guttural voice, that displays the power of his stomach to push the diapragm air (not that he has any lack of that area though!). People love them and if I may quote them
"...when you mosh we feed you and you fuel us, we find absolute calm in the chaos we unleash..."
For the drummer , let me tell you , don't be deceived by his looks. He may look like a school boy, but with the talent he displays, he must be banging a class load of chicks at a time.
But for the cool factor, no one can beat the Akshay, their man guarding the bass. he gives a shit how the rules play, he'd play, dance, drink (Victoria Bitter) and manage to pull of some real low pitch.
Akshay - Rabbit is rich
If you haven't heard them, search for the song 'Kaboom', and your neighbors shall hate you forever. They have an EP out, but really 'kaboom' is the only one for an inclusion in your playlist. For me, they started of good, but then became repetitive. But as they say, "rabbit is rich and will be".

Chaitanya Bhalla is way groovier in 'Lazy River'. And literally.

Now Ladyboys and Ungentlemens, we have for you the "Metal song - Tip of the day"
Start a metal song song with a scream!
Yes, there you have it. Frustrated college boys like (yours truly), jump straight up into that headbanging zone, once a sound beyond a certain decibel is heard. Besides, even Scribe did it. In every song.

V Km (Scribe) : blah blah...
Crowd : fuck you
VK : This bunch here loves to say "fuck"!
Crowd : Yeahhh
VK : And they also love to say "yeah"!
Crowd : hey, yeahh
VK : Lets try it together then ..
Crowd : Fuck yeahhh
Before I introduce you to some choupati ' खड़ा Pav-Bhaji ' , and a clean shaven bassist , lets us get to a little serious stuff. Its the secret behind their new drummer Virendra Kaith - aka - 'Viru' (ofcourse the DR one, and khiladi etc etc) who was introduced to the crowd as Doctor Dan  (if I heard it right). Now hear this. Viru's facebook profile is called facebook.com/pdvirus . Here is the mystery. I hear his introduction and what comes to my mind is Dr. Dan burisch of Project lotus. Dr Dan is a well known man and was heavily covered by media in 2004 for his findings of extraterrestrial life on earth (Fucking real ALIENS !!) in the form of certain PD Virus!!! If u haven't you should read about it here. I till date believed it stood for 'Pin Drop Virus' as he played for Pin Drop Violence.
I stand with my hanging jaw.

I don't need to tell you about the band, do I. Still if you have been in a coma lately and haven't heard Scribe buy 'Mark of Teja' or even 'Have hard : Will core' or 'Confect' would do (and join the 3 ppl whom the band invited on stage for a song!!! ) , Or I'd say head to their reverbnation page first ; open the lyrics before you play a song, because Vishwesh Krishnamurthy has had this long name since birth and hence had a lot of practice speaking long sentences swiftly. So swift, even the rappers would eat their shit. But that's cause his voice is gold. Pure malleable. He sings as he like. He even makes music out of his mouth, tongue, neck and all the spaces in between. For a quick demo listen to their superhit 'Pav Bhaji' where there is a part he sings ( rather raps-growls-electronicates ) the recipe of pav bhaji. Tell me if u can catch him, doing that.

I went to the show with an aim of streaming the event live, but I forgot to switch to high quality and then suddenly I was sucked into a moshpit. Don't blame me. Blame the Scribe. Torchbearers of Indian hardcore.

Vishvesh - Scribe

Now a very short little lesson for my fellow rednecks.

This is the Devil Horn.
This is 'I love You' in sign language. Showing it to a guy is GAY.

Resurrection IX turquoise cottage February11, 2010

Resurrection ix the tour by demonic resurrection in support of their album “return to darkness” came to New Delhi and the venue was turquoise cottage Vasant Vihar. The delight of the metal heads in Delhi was high as the gig was to feature acrid semblance, undying Inc and Demonic resurrection.
The gig which was scheduled to be started at 7.30pm was as per the standards set in the New Delhi rock scene; it did start late. The venue turquoise cottage was filled with head-bangers from all over Delhi however some of them would say the cottage got too small for holding metal heads from Delhi. The lack of space was a critical problem and this did act as some kind of spoil sport but the lack of ambiance was overcome by great sound system and some solid metallic performances.
First to perform were demonic resurrection who were without their keyboardist which as per the demonstealer’s facebook page was a first for them. The band was great and brought the heads to bang in the crowd   and invoke some moshpit but the New Delhi crowd were too rigid to be brought into moshpit but for a few moments. The music was great and featured tracks from the new album. Next up was acrid semblance who got the already charged up crowd and the headbangers in full flow and moshpit began to flow and by the end it was all a great atmosphere for metal by the time they got over with the environment was metallic and ready for some explosive action by undying inc and as expected undying came up to it’s expectation once more and brought the moshpit and headbanging to it’s summit.
The crowd rejoiced the performances and by the time the gig was over the atmosphere was oozing with energy. The gig went on amazing and had the venue had more space the gig would have been a greater fun.

Pub Rock Fest 2009 'mezz' new delhi

To start off with the gig rigging I have chosen “Pub Rock Fest” gigs. Being in New Delhi I attended the one held at ‘Mezz’ in New Friends Colony.

The first gig was at ‘Mezz’ in New Delhi which was on September 6th featured Arcane Deception, Acrid Semblance, Phobia followed by Guillotine. Mezz had a great environment the stage was set on a low height and the sound system was great which made it feel like that the bands were playing among the audience and there was good crowd that made the atmosphere electric and the stage was set for  the bands to unleash the metal within. First up was Arcane Deception which I missed because I was late and by the time I arrived they were packing their equipment off the stage. After ruing the fact that I was late and missed a band I headed right in the front of the crowd as I was adamant not to miss any more of the show. The stage was being set up again and this time it was Acrid Semblance.  The first song they played was from their album ‘From the Oblivion’. It was after some time we were into their first song that I realized that like the others around me I had warmed up and was banging my head. And by the time they played ‘Genisis’ I was head banging full on right in the front of the crowd, there’s something I call getting high on head banging that began taking over my senses I was to-tully lost in it and was high. By the time acrid were finished I was pretty high and the crowd was filled with energy leading to a small moshpit by the end. Next up were ‘Phobia’  which had local crowd support they put in a medley of songs to which there was headbanging and moshpit( although forced by their manager) the energies were flowing when the falling of people on the monitors meant that one of them stopped working and one of their vocalists had to bear with it. Phobia had got the crowds all charged up by the end of their performance but this had an abrupt break when the changing of the stage took an awful lot of time because of the monitor’s non performance. Last up was ‘Guillotine’ who despite the break which made the crowd disperse put up a good show and witnessed lot of headbanging and some moshpit.

By the end of the show I was pretty high and had difficulties in lifting my neck as it was tired of the headbanging, partially out of my senses I headed to Mc Donald’s to stuff up my growling stomach. The show got over at 1 am and was great head banging zone
Hope we get bigger crowds and wilder moshpits the next year.
